Work Study, Work Flow, Flow Chart, Flow Process
Many terms may describe the concept, but the single fact is that
A Workplace Can Be Productive, Or Just Busy.
JPR can help you assure that the activity in your workplace is productive.
JPR WILL OBSERVE AND RECORD WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS IN A WORK SITUATION, WHETHER INDIVIDUAL, LINE, GROUP, CELL
What activity is performed?
(Over time, startup and cleanup, interruptions, break and lunch, busy and slow)
Does all activity add value?
(Think of rework, equipment down, work partly done, multiple handling, inconsistent methods)
Are workloads balanced?
(Between operators? Does the job require too much, or too little? What about rearranging tasks?)
Who has responsibility, who plays a supporting role?
(Who assigns, approves, checks, contributes? Do all tasks have one and only one responsible?)
JPR THEN CONVERTS OBSERVATION RESULTS TO DEMONSTRATE
Where actual practice does not meet management expectations
Where the work stacks up, and why
Who sets priority and how well the plan is followed
The extent to which individual work loads vary
What delay and non-value added activity has crept into the workplace
Where constraints are, due to workload, process, equipment, flow
Any practice or policy that retards progress
The right crew size
The reports that measure key outputs
And of course JPR will suggest changes that can improve output, cut costs, reduce cycle time.
Work study is equally useful in the office, the lab, the maintenance shop, the field, customer service, government, military, and the warehouse, as well as on a production floor.
Call, or e-mail, and we can explore how work study can apply to your
particular situation and objectives. There is no cost or obligation.
